What is the Trans-Pacific-Partnership (TPP)?

  • Proposed regional free trade and investment treaty - excludes China.
  • 12 current participants which together represent approx. 40% of global GDP: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the US & Vietnam.
  • Implementation is one of Obama's main foreign policy goals (would create tighter Pacific-rim alliances at a time of growing Chinese clout), and he'll be pushing hard for it to be signed-off in 2015.
