Are US/Latin America relations at a turning point?

  • Looks like it - for over 50 years Washington's squeeze on Cuba has soured relations with the rest of Latin America, even with strong US allies in the region.
  • Unfreezing of relations with Cuba will be a turning-point and possibly dampen knee-jerk anti-Americanism (routinely deployed to mask local problems) in Latin America, and focus on real human rights issues in Cuba.
  • Obama has slowly, consistently and partly successfully addressed the biggest issues that strain the US's relations with Latin America i.e. Cuba, immigration & redefining the so-called "war on drugs" as a health issue.
